Travel diary

So I'm writing this because I'm bored and unable to fall asleep.. I thought why not write something that might bore others and help them fall asleep.. lol.. Recently traveled to Baroda for official reasons.. Blah! Some of you might say.. Well anyway, trips are events that provide a lot of scope for observing people.. And while flying is supposed to be the 'fastest' mode of travel the time spent at the airport checking in luggage and the security check and all the other 'drama' it feels like years before the flight actually takes off.. anyway this "free time" makes for some very entertaining observations.. There are various kinds of travelers at the airport.. You may have seen these people.. please feel free to add to the list below: 1. The selfie enthusiast:- Well, you know who I'm talking about.. You know the guy sitting near the window tryin to get a good shot of the "clouds".. And since we're all for gender equality so why le...

On "Friendship" day..

So for those of you waiting for my regular friendship day post here goes.. Its a day late but like they say "Better late than never".. So yesterday Facebook timelines and WhatsApp statuses were brimming with Friendship day posts.. People were sharing group photos with a vengeance.. I felt like it was a contest going on with people trying to outdo each other.. more the number of group photos higher the popularity I'm guessing.. Me? I spent yesterday hurriedly packing my stuff to take back to Hassan with me.. I also featured on a couple of peoples statuses.. being part of their group photos.. well I wasn't sure if I should return the 'favour' by posting photos of those people on my timeline/WhatsApp status.. So here's a tip.. "When in doubt, shut the #@₹& up".. So I was quietly observing these 'developments' on social media.. And I went back to the time when "Friendship" day meant a big deal to me.. I had this very idealisti...

Transfer...

Being a banker in a PSU I always "knew" I'm liable to be transferred..but nothing could've prepared me for the shock when I saw my transfer order.. The transfer order meant I would have to relocate.. and since my husband doesn't have a transferable job and my daughter has adjusted to her school we just decided it would be better just for me to move away and stay alone at my new place of posting.. Well, any married woman with kids will tell you about her fantasies of a "single life".. you know where she can wake up at whatever time she wants, not cook, not have to worry about packing lunch boxes and school bags.. Basically women lust for freedom from the daily routine and they all long for some "Me" time.. But from my experience of the past week I can tell you that "single life" sucks big time! It's just been one week, but I feel it's been a year since I've been away from home.. I don't want to sound ungrateful.. Th...

The diary of a 'lonely' soul..

Spoiler alert! This post is not going to be as morose as the title sounds (Hopefully!).. So.. Going out for lunch alone or rather eating alone is frowned upon.. People give you this weird look when they find you having lunch alone.. Well I love people's company at lunch as much as I love dining alone.. And to all you people who seem 'very concerned' about my being 'lonely' at lunch, please feel free to join my table.. Don't stare at me from a distance and look at me like I stole your kidney! Anyway for those who think having lunch alone is not fun, guess what's even less fun.. Let me tell you.. It's being within hearing distance of a couple having lunch together and listening to their nonsensical conversation but not being able give them your sarcastic responses.. So recently I felt like having a 'Happy meal'.. And so I went to this outlet near my work place.. For a change the place was not as crowded as it usually is and I was able to get...

On Mother's Day..

So today (Mother's Day) was the day when social media timelines turned into battlefields for the competition 'Kiski Maa sabse mahan'.. I saw innumerable posts both on WhatsApp and FB with people professing their love for their respective mothers.. (Yawn!) Firstly, we all know you love your mothers.. As do I.. So instead of spamming my timeline, you could've just called your mom and wished her a happy Mother's Day considering she may not even be following/be active on social media and so she may have missed your profession of 'love' on a medium that's still alien to her.. Secondly, if you're not going to follow the ideals your mother raised you with then your sharing Mother's day posts has no relevance at all.. Well, it goes without saying that my mom is my best friend.. There is no one who is as appreciative or as supportive as she is of me and my abilities.. And while I don't remember having grown up with any profession of love (saying...

Half torn hearts - A book review

Move over Chetan Bhagat.. Make way for the new and exciting writer also known as the 'Sidney Sheldon of India' - Novoneel Chakraborty.. Well, I've read almost all his books and recommended him to all and sundry.. His books are amazing although comparing him to Sidney Sheldon would be unfair to both him and Sidney Sheldon.. Nevertheless his books are an absolute delight to read and hard to put down once you've started reading them.. His latest book 'Half torn hearts' is a story of 3 people and their relationship.. How their paths cross, how they influence each others lives and I can't say more without giving away the plot.. So let's just say it's a story about these people's lives and about love and friendship.. Mind you it's not your regular love triangle that is the essence of almost all bollywood movies today.. This novel has more twists and turns than an Abbas Mastaan thriller and keeps you guessing till you've read the last page.. ...

Apna time aayega.. :-)

Watched "Gully Boy" and I have to say it's one of the best movies I have seen in a while.. It's the story of the struggles of a guy who tries to break the shackles and against all odds makes a name for himself as a rap sensation.. This movie had everything that your average bollywood movie has.. Good looking actors/actresses, romance, comedy, songs, drama, and most importantly - an inspiring message.. We all like the real life stories of how the successful men and women never had it easy but succeeded despite all odds.. We try to draw inspiration from these 'success stories'.. For me this film was inspiring on so many levels.. It was inspiring to see how the protagonist turned his pain into beauty through his lyrics and rap.. Despite not having much support the protagonist grabbed the rare opportunities that came his way and tried to make an impact.. The most scene or the 'climax' for me was when the guy's father tells him that he is poor.. That...
