On 'World Unfriend Day'

A few days ago, this colleague who works in the same office as me passed me by without even glancing in my direction.. This after sending me a friend request on Facebook and my having accepted the same.. Seeing the colleague's indifference about my presence made me visit the 'friend's' profile and unfriend the 'friend'.. And that's precisely the purpose behind celebrating 'World Unfriend Day' on 17th of November every year.. Well I wasn't aware of this when I unfriended this particular person.. But when a friend mentioned this, I Googled to find out what it was all about.. Apparently 'World Unfriend Day' is a day earmarked to trim those friend lists on various social media channels.. Those friends whom we haven't seen in ages or don't really care to be in touch with.. 'World Unfriend Day' is the time to give them the boot.. So I got down to the job of going through my friend list in an attempt to trim it and get rid of ...

I want my 2 hours 4 minutes back Miss 'Simran'

'Simran' is just the third Kangana Ranaut movie that I watched, the other two being 'Fashion' and 'Queen'.. While 'Fashion' may have won Priyanka Chopra the National Award for 'Best Actress' it was an out and out Kangana movie.. That panache.. The chutzpah with which Kangana portrayed the role of a super model totally blew my mind.. With 'Queen', Kangana set the bar so high that it was beginning to look like she would rule bollywood.. And would have a fan following second only to the Khans.. But alas! It was not meant to be.. Her latest venture 'Simran' was a heartbreaker.. I'm thankful to my friend for having refused to agree to watch this movie with me at the theater.. She saved me some bucks that I can now use to renew my Netflix subscription.. The premise of the movie is plausible.. We can all relate to the independent, hard working protagonist Praful Patel who's a hard working woman and dreams of owning a house.. H...

What women want

Well honestly speaking, we ourselves don't know what we want.. And this is probably the most talked about subject and I've heard many men say they can't really figure out what a woman wants.. And there isn't a comprehensive guide to this question.. However, here are some pointers.. The post is an attempt at humour and not intended to hurt anyone's feelings.. So, here goes... 1) We consider ourselves the USP of our families.. So we want to feel needed.. We want to be your go-to person for everything, so we can crib about how our significant other can't find his socks even if it was right in front of his eyes or how our children are so clingy that we can't even take a shower without interruption.. 2) When we are quiet and seemingly upset we want you to ask us "What's wrong"? We are definitely going to say "nothing", but that shouldn't stop you from asking us what's wrong.. We hate to be ignored, although we reserve our right...

The motherhood 'challenge'

I'm reminded of a line my mother told me when I was a kid.. I was probably giving her a hard time that in exasperation she said, "When you have children of your own, then you will know".. Today those words are ringing in my ears as I deal with my little one (LO) and her endless questions and comments/views.. Well, it's not as bad as I've made it sound like.. My LO is a sweet child.. Actually, there is only one sweet child in the world and every mother has her/him.. So while she's a sweet kid and as innocent as kids are at that age there are times when I want to hide somewhere to avoid her questions.. At other times I'm mortified after listening to her opinions.. And there are also times I just want to say something sarcastic.. But I've learned that she's way too smart for that.. And I'll get back those same lines that I dish out to her at a later point of time.. So I resist the urge to say anything that will come back to bite me later on.. ...

On Mother's Day

I woke up to a lot of forwards wishing me a 'Happy Mother's Day'.. A few years ago I wrote a post on the occasion of Mothers day, talking about how my mother is the most important person in my life.. Today my Facebook wall was filled with posts of people putting up pics with their mom's.. Many of my friends have also changed their display pics on Whatsapp.. I found all this 'over the top'.. Speaking for myself, I'm very grateful for the gift of my mother.. And whatever I am today I owe it all to my mother.. I don't think putting up a post on' Mother's day' is sufficient to thank our mothers for all that they have done for us.. I don't think they even want the appreciation or the gratitude.. Speaking of my own experience being a mother, I would do anything for my daughter..And wouldn't regret it at all.. And it's just a mothers first instinct to go all out and do anything for her children.. Her children take precedence over anyt...

"One Indian Girl" - Book Review

Well, my mom is the best cook in the world.. Of course everyone thinks their mom is Tarla Dalal.. So do I.. And staying away from one's mother sort of makes one realise the value of food cooked by your mother.. So coming to my mom's cooking, while she is a superb cook, all her dishes are prepared with 'less' salt basically to suit my dad's palate who hates being served food with too much salt.. And whenever I visit my parents, my mom cooks all my favourite dishes (without salt).. So the scene is something like this.. I'm hungry and my mom serves me lunch.. And I'm just waiting to savour the food.. It's only when I have put the first morsel of food in my mouth that I realise that the gravy though superb is having less salt.. After grumbling to myself I go to the the kitchen and add some salt in my food and then continue eating.. This was exactly my experience after reading the first few pages of Chetan Bhagat's latest novel.. I was eagerly awaiting...

ShobhaGate.. What's all the fuss about???

For the past two days, Social Media is filled with people trolling Shobha De because she happened to make a remark about the Indian contingent representing our nation at the Rio 2016 Olympics.. Her tweet seems to have hurt the sentiments of the nation.. Of course we're also marching towards our 70th Independence Day which has probably increased the feeling of patriotism among us.. Whatever be the reason, I'm still trying to figure what is it about her tweet that has offended the people around.. Agreed that her remark was downright mean and inconsiderate.. But then it was just a casual remark.. Like people telling me casually that I'm fat.. I don't feel offended and troll those people on social media.. I just block them.. From my life.. Heh heh heh.. Coming back to the point, I have a couple of questions for all those people who are offended by Ms De's tweet.. So tell me, did you hear of Dipa Karmakar prior to this year's Olympics? Do you follow any other sp...
