Friendship Day Special: If Friends Were Apps on My Phone
So here’s wishing all of you a very Happy Friendship Day! Actually, scratch that—every day is Friendship Day when you’ve got the right set of friends. You know the kind I’m talking about—the ones who make office life less of a daily endurance test and more of a sitcom with inside jokes, spontaneous chai breaks, and mutual eye-rolls during meetings that should’ve been emails.
Then there are the friends outside work—ones you met through common connections, ex-colleagues who’ve moved on to better (or just different) jobs, or people who decided to chuck it all and start something of their own. Friends come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities. (Yes, I know that sounded borderline sleazy—but those who get my humor know exactly what I mean. Lol.)
So for today’s post, I thought I’d do something fun—what if our friends were apps on our phones? Scroll through this list and see if you can recognize your own circle in any of these!
These are just a few of the “frequently used” friends, but hey—your friend circle probably has its own unique app-store of personalities. Feel free to add yours in the comments.
Now, if you're anything like me, Friendship Day probably takes you back to school and college days—colorful bands tied around wrists, dramatic promises of “forever,” and secretly ranking friends based on how many bands you got. But as we grow older, we realize that forever friendships aren’t made with bands or gifts—they’re built through the quiet, consistent presence of people who choose to stay, over and over again.
So here’s a little checklist I made—just to figure out who your true ride-or-die friends are:
How to Know if You’ve Got a Forever Friend (1 point each)
You call/text each other regularly—for gossip, rants, or just vibes.
You’ve travelled together.
You’ve met each other’s families.
You’ve crashed at their place.
You’ve gone drinking together.
You’ve lovingly abused each other using very creative swear words.
You’ve shared books.
You’ve cried in front of them without feeling awkward.
They know your stories—both the good and the ugly.
You’ve blocked them on social media once (bonus points for drama).
They visited you in the hospital.
They showed up when you lost someone.
They’d travel from another city (or country) just to see you for a couple of hours.
You’ve fought bitterly but still chose to come back.
They’ve seen you at your worst and still chose to stay.
If someone scores 9 or more, hug them a little tighter today. They’re not just your friend—they’re your chosen family.
